Been using this for a few years now with a pretty good success rate if you work within its parameters. I have often wondered exactly what this stuff is. It works a lot like the old fashioned Nitrocellulose lacquer but seems smoother more silky and definitely has a whole different smell. Nitro has a sickly sweet odour and mirotone seems to have a much more toxic smell to it.

Wondering if anyone here knows what is left on the wood after the smelly stuff is gone?
Is it a layer of cellulose nitrate?
If not what is it??

Thanks for that but I still don't know what the resin is. Anyone else?

Have you tried contacting Mirotone directly? They might just tell you if you can make up a convincing enough line about wanting to know for compatibility with other finishes or solvents
