Welcome Matthew,
These forums are a great place to share ideas and get advice and are, almost invariably, friendly and pleasant. The moderators make sure of it. It is good to post photos as they explain so much about what you are doing. I hope that you enjoy yourself here. If you tell the forums about your particular areas of interest/expertise then members can help to direct you to the appropriate areas/forums.
The best advice that I can give if you are just starting out in woodwork is to take some classes with a good professional woodworker in your area. People who rush in and buy a lot of equipment often regret their purchases. They either spend a lot on expensive gear then find they do not use it, or they buy cheap gear and then find it doesn't do what they want. I didn't even find out what to look for in equipment until I learned from some experts. Things I bought before then were, mostly, a waste of money.
On the other hand, if you are already an expert woodworker but just new to the forums, most of us are always keen to learn, so please share your expertise with us.

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Matthew",
There are a stack of members in Brisbane up to the Sunshine Coast & S.E. Queensland if it's that Hamilton
and if the other one in Victoria, the same cane be said for Melbourne and country Victoria plus of course the rest of the world.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork......
Cheers crowie
