Hi All,

I'm based in Adelaide, just getting the workshop I wanted but never had set up.

I snagged this old iron from up the hill before it went to scrap. No Idea what it is, just who sold it. The flat belt is over 4 meters long.

Though you might get a kick out of it.

Welcome, looks like an old milling machine by the cuts across the deck. Either that or a drill press.

Definitive a drill press, has the smile of shame to prove it.

I think theyre called a "sensitive" drill, based on the over-the-back style of flat belt, rather than the normal camel back type.

It has a vendors plate, and a cast "H" and seems the correct colour for an old Hercus, but no other identifying marks. Plan is to clean it up and remove all of the sticky "CV" grease. New belts, and then use is in its current configuration to build a new motor mount, as the existing one is pretty hacked about. I plan to document the process wither here or on the metal work forums( whichever the members prefer)

The vintage machinery website has a lot of info for american amchines, but not as much on Asutralian amchines, which is a shame. We have had some great innovators over the yea
