I'm Kevin and I'm an occasionally enthusiastic amateur woodworker. I generally prefer to recycle materials rather than use new timber. A lathe is my preferred tool but I only have two little ones and both are really only suitable for turning between centres.

I Purchased the chattels of my father-in-law's estate at the request of the family (a long story) a few years back which mainly consisted of a lifetime's collection of tools and hardware. Now have all the "toys" I'll ever want (except maybe a bigger lathe) and most of the materials but no longer have enough room in my shed to use them! I'm retired so in theory I have time to play with wood but it doesn't seem to work out that way very often.

My most recent project was a kitchen renovation using recycled Jarrah, much of it rescued from firewood heaps. Due to shed being overstocked (or too small LOL) I did much of the work on the patio, much to the annoyance of the other half.

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Kevin"....
There are quite a few members in Perth and across West.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork..
Cheers crowie

PS - Never overstocked JUST NEED A BIGGER SHED especially for recycled timber

Thanks for the warm welcome gentlemen. I stumbled upon this forum while looking for a drive belt for my ancient Elu flip saw, liked the look of it and decided to join.

Welcome to the forum.

By what I have read your shed is quite small(packed) so you might consider putting the machines on wheels.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks Christos
By what I have read your shed is quite small(packed) so you might consider putting the machines on wheels. Not all that small at 9m x 6m, but definitely packed. My father-in-law was a very keen collector who had amassed an estimated 7 tonnes of tools and hardware before he died. I took about 1 1/2 tonnes of metal to the recyclers, sold a few bits and pieces and gave away about 1/2 tonne of wood for firewood, sadly quite a bit of which was Australian Cedar. I packed the other 5 tonnes approx. into a seatainer and shipped it to Perth.

My shed was already well stocked with what I'd acquired to keep me out of mischief in my retirement. About 30 hand planes ended up in my son's shed. The rest of dad-in-law's stuff filled to overflowing what was working space in my shed, with barely enough room left to sort through it so I could decide what I didn't need. I'm almost finished sorting now so hopefully will soon be selling off what I can't use and making some room.
