We recently demolished a house and kept the 82 x19mm toungue and groove jarrah floor boards. On the same property we are building a two storey home with a timber(pine)/particle board flooring (19mm). We want to install the floor boards over this floor and I am looking at the best method of installing the boards.
Do I:
1. Just nail the floor boards to the particle board?
2. Nail and glue the floor boards. Which glue to I use? Is it worth secret nailing considering I have many nail holes from the old nails?
3. Is it worth getting the boards re-machined? Or just rely on the sanding to flatten the floor out?
I have looked at whether it would be worth nailing the boards in each joist (?is this the right term) which are spaced at 450 c/c with longer nails but then the boards would be running across the room which would not be ideal.
Any comments or experience would be helpful.
