Wazza from Inverell.

Hi Guys
My name is Warren, I'm on old, pot bellied Grandpa, I live at Inverell in New England, NSW.
I joined this forum about a year ago, made a few posts about bandsaws, then got sidetracked and never got back - until now.
There are a few subjects I'd like to discuss... when I find my way around this forum site, its changed from what it used to be.

My hobbies are woodworking and metalworking. My last decent project was the completion of a 6 piece dining setting made from local, dried, Ironbark.
I was so pleased with the end result I have now started to build an 8 place setting, the table will be 2.4 long x 1m wide. The original 1800mm x 943mm setting is now on the market.

The first chair of the next 8 is almost finished, I have used the experience I gained in the previous exercise, this next batch of chairs is basically the same size although the backs are higher, the front legs and all the cross pieces are finished to 25mm x 35mm, much lighter than the originals. The table will be built last as somewhere to put all these things I make is somewhat of a problem.

I have an 18" JET bandsaw, I'd like to find other Jet owners, I have a few questions I'd like to ask.

Hi Wazza.

I hope this weeks weather hasn't had you burning the wood for warmth :U good to see you found the forum again. Don't have a Jet BS but some do a bit of fossicking in the Bandsaw section and fire a question in there I am sure you'll wake someone up.

Its amazing how much 'rubbish' one creates in one's workshop and as you will know, when you get all hard hearted and have throw our session, the very next day you'll regret your actions 'cos you coulda used that !
Anyway, 3 big barrowloads of ironbark offcuts went to the woodheap and in the last few days, when its been snowing and sleeting and sometimes hail, well, we had to get the tile fire going again and as I write, its still going.

I notice you live at Hinchinbrook - every time it gets cold down here, like down to minus 8, and on the odd occasion, down to minus 10, I tell the missus, "that's it, we're off to live at Cardwell to get warm !" But the damned woman won't move ! "Too far from the sprogs". Its very frustrating !

In my first post, I tried to insert a pic of the dining setting I'd made but it was way to large and I couldn't find a way to reduce the size of it so, no pic. I'll work on it but I'm handicapped, I have an Apple laptop.

Ah Warren I have seen many a forumite jump to conclusions re-Hinchinbrook ........you see there is one in bright sunny QLD that gets hit by Cyclones and the like. Then there is one in NSW which gets hit by icey winds straight off the snow at the end of the M5 start of the M7 and it is this one I live at. They figured by giving the suburb that name it would make people feel warmer :no:.

Burning Iron bark isn't so bad unlike mate in Tassie who burns Tassie Blackwood or Huon:~

welcome to the forums, I have been a lurker here for many years, I to have been doing woodwork for many years but mainly do it with cnc machines now, I just moved up to Inverell mid 2012, and for the last 6 months I haven't done much but hoping to fire up the ol machines in the next few weeks :)
