Hey All,

Nathan here from Canberra. Work in an office job day to day but when i first left school i was laboring as a carpentry assistant. Really enjoyed it so it has remained an interest of mine for a bit but haven't really had a chance to setup my own work space. Just got into wood work again now that my wife and i have a place and am working on building my own work bench in the garage/ workshop among other things. Getting a nice collection of machining tools but am growing and learning about the skill and satisfaction gained by using hand tools :)

Dont know a great deal about joints or types of timber etc but am learning by buying resources and asking friends interested in wood also, pretty eager to learn and love the feeling of satisfaction i get from seeing something i created with a nice finish that i can use or give to a friend as a gift.

You will probably see me pop in to threads and asking questions to please be nice :)

Im sure will speak to some of you soon.

Cheers
Nathan

Hi Nathan,

Nice to see you here! I am at about the same stage of setting my workshop in Canberra, even a bit behind - didn't start to make a proper work bench yet.

Hi there!

Are you thinking of building from a plan or wing it and see how you go?

I like the look of the Les Miller plans from Skills publishing, nice and cheap to get them too so i will get stuck into that id say. Have to go out to the timber supplier in qbn to chose the materials now. Not sure exactly what will last but i want some quality wood this time :)

I haven't decided on the design yet. But agree with you on a good timber! And I will want it light in colour.

Welcome to the forum.

As you have pointed out asking questions when you are stuck is a good thing. Asking questions in this forum gives you a wider demography of people. And some replies could even be helpful. :U

Have fun in your new found hobby and on the forum.
