Hi guys.
My name is Aaron. I'm 31 and am working as an industrial designer. I graduated from the industrial design degree at UniSA in 2009 and went straight to work in a foundry doing tool (mould) design. I do a lot of sketching with pen and paper then 3D model designs using solidworks which are then either cut on cnc lathes/mills or sent to China for plastic parts.
I have to confess though, that foundries are not my passion. Furniture is. I am keen to get back into building furniture as I did some of it before going to uni (timber pre-voc course in 2002 and wood machining from 2002-2005). I have a few tools (router, circular saw, electric planer, drills, chisels, clamps) but still need to get the big items such as a band saw, buzzer, thicknesser and panel saw. I also need to buy some good clamps, planes etc...
Any advice would help. I have sketched up a few cool designs and would like to start building in the next year. My long term goal is to work full time designing and building my own furniture. I would really like to get some more woodworking experience, so if anyone needs a free lackey on a Friday or Saturday I'd be most appreciative.
Cheers,
Aaron
