Been packing the house and shed as we have sold and will be moving elsewhere once we get back from a trip to Brasil.

Unfortunately I packed all my nuts, bolts and washers away and, wouldn't you know is, I needed 4 of each.

Off to the rabbit hutch. Got home and was bolting things together. I t suddenly struck me that I had paid 30cents each for 12mm flat gal washers!!!:!:!

Would have been cheaper to drill holes in 20cent pieces and use them:!:oo::oo:

Maybe I should have gone to Tru Value!:D

I have some old 2 cents pieces if you'd like to get the price down ;)

Seriously? 20 cents?

I've been 'guilty' of 'accidentally' putting them in my pocket when buying bolts. They're annoying little things when you hold them, I keep on dropping them all the time (please note that slipping them on the bolt would be a good solution but this takes too long).

Hmm, I'm working in the Endoscopy Suite this afternoon. All I'm going to be seeing is gal washers in the colonoscopy room :oo:

Back in the 1950's my uncle built a boat in his garage.
It was cheaper for him to drill out half-pennys and pennys than it was to buy the copper or bronze washers.
Boat was covered in them.
The more things change ................

Bunnies used to provide bags to put washers and bolts in, but they disappeared a few years ago. Now you can either put them in your pocket, or put them on the bolt - where they don't get scanned anyway!

I put them on a bolt for two reasons. One to make sure I have the correct size, and two, to make sure they are not stuck together.
If you put them in the back pocket and walk out without paying for them (even if only one) that is technically theft whether intentional or not. Not worth the hassle for a 30cent item.

Not worth the hassle no, but it's amazing how many times you get distracted by a 2 year old who needs the toilet, or a 5 year old whining about buying something and forget what you've picked up! And said 2 year old has walked out through the registers at least twice, once with a plastic football (Big W) and another time with whistle in Crazy Clarkes!

"shrinkage" they call it in the trade don't they?
