Timed light switch

SWMBO is constantly leaving on the lights in the garage :((. I'm looking either a timer that can be wired into the light circuit that switches off the lights after a predetermined time. Alternatively a motion sensor could be another option, this could be setup to automatically turn on the lights when someone enters the garage.

You can get those switches they use in flats etc, where they have a push button that lasts for about 15 minutes.

The timing on these should be adjustable when installed - we have one in the loo to operate the exhaust fan

You're not addressing the root of the problem; you need to wire the switch live so she remembers what the switch is for! She'll either get used to rumaging around in the dark, or she'll learn to turn the light off when she's finished.

I had a similar problem with Mrs. Wood forgetting to turn the four back lights off when she brought the dog in at night and my solution worked a treat! The dog has a few lumps on it's head though from crashing into stuff I leave in the yard.

I've got one of those motion sensor lights in the garage, in addition to the normal lights.

When you walk in at night the sensor goes on and stays on for a short time. It doesn't light up when you drive in as there is enough light from the car lights to trick it into thinking it is still daylight, but when you turn of the car lights and open the doors the light goes on.

BTW my setup is not for SWMBO as she doesn't drive at night but is handy for myself.:D

Grumpy John, we have a 360 motion detector in our garage and it is just great. We have four entrances into the garage. The time it stays on after detecting no motion can be set. Check out the Clipsal offerings.

Not all of them. Read the box before you buy. As incandescent lamps are now being phased out they will all have to work with flouros, but there are still a lot out there that do not.

Yes, mine is used with flouros. Flouros ain't what they used to be. Modern flouros switch on and off just like incandescent lights - no flicker or delay.

Does anyone know of a switch that stays on for x seconds after you've turned it off?

That is, when I turn off the external lights mounted on the shed facing the house, I want them to stay on for a further 20 seconds which gives me time to walk back to the house in the light.

Yes thats the idea Ray, but I also want to be able to turn them on and leave them on if we are out the back during the night. Can these switches do that?

Yes you can get a delay off switch. They are used on exhaust fans in toilets to clear the air after you leave. :poop:
