Greetings everyone, whilst new to this forum, I've been an active contributor to a routing forum for some time, and whilst I don't have too much spare time at the moment I'll spend it finding my way around this forum which, whilst very similar to what I'm used to, does have differences. Whilst I enjoy attempting to answer members questions, I do spend a lot of time making mainly routed projects and photograph them as I go and then add text and post them as tutorials for beginners. The number of photographs can vary from a low of 10 to about 40!
I have taken up turning on a mini lathe but have a long way to go and am not shy to ask for advice. Some of my projects incorporate a little metal turning, I'm no expert here either but get by. Partly because of my age, but also lack of patience I make lots of mistakes but over time have become adept at turning mistakes into features! Most of my mistakes during a project are shown in the thread. You may have noticed that I rarely use two words when twenty will do! I'll catch up with you all real soon.

G'day mate and welcome to the forum. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your projects.
I want to get into turning in the next 12 months, i'll probably start with a mini lathe too.

Thanks for your welcome Andy. When I first bought my mini lathe, from Timbecon, I was advised to start by making some pens. I didn't have a clue how to go about this but by asking lots of questions I was given heaps of advice from forum members. Here is a photo shoot from an early one where I bought the blanks ready drilled, these days I cut up and drill my own blanks, I also make lots of Acrylic pens, sometimes cheating by turning slimline ones on the metal lathe. It surprised me how many pen kit sellers there are and how low in cost the basic type kits are, some being less than $4.00, also how acceptable pens are as presents. I don't sell anything that I make, what we don't keep are given as well received presents.
I'm rather disappointed to see that the actual photographs don't show as I've been used to in my other forum which appears to use the same programme but probably a more up to date version.

I appreciate your welcome and need time to judge the standard of routing here also what techniques are being used. It may well turn out that my kind of routing is already at a higher standard than my own, so softly, softly is the order of the day.
Here are a few examples of past photo-shoots, there are HEAPS more!

Thanks for your warm welcome guys. Other than routing, I'm pretty well self taught but at almost age 77 I've had a a lot of years to pick things up. The reason that I've become a member of this forum is that on the "other one" I'm expected to deal with "anonymous" members, that is members who join and fail to even give a first name or an indication of their woodworking experience, let alone where about in the world they reside or what major tools they have. I admit to having difficulty addressing a member as "134zxy" etc and how is it possible to instruct such a member how to rout slots using a ski mounted router if that member has no experience or skis.
It will be interesting to see members here that I've had dealings with elsewhere. I haven't resigned form "the other" forum, however I'll see how things progress here.

Wow, I'm thinking that all the Aussies on the other forum started out here! Dave, I now realise why you don't make any projects these days, your time, except for shopping on Fridays, is taken up full time between the two forums. Before any one tells me that you're a yank, I must mention that your Aussie vocabulary is bigger than an Aussie like me who has only been here for 46 years.
Mal, I posted a thread on making skis in the routing section earlier today and will post others projects at discreet intervals. Is there anything specific that you would like?

Of course I can young Howard, when signing up I tried to find somewhere to add such info. but couldn't, so if there is such a place let me know.
I'm 77 next month, arrived in Perth in September 1964 to escape the cold wet weather in England. My first job as an improver radio/TV technician after spending best part of two years in the physics lab. at high school where I had a brilliant teacher recently demobbed from the RAF where he had been a RADAR instructor, in Jan. 1950. Apart from two wasted years as a driver in the RAF on national service, I have been in the consumer electronics industry, approximately half of this time in my own business, the last fifteen or so years specialising in VCR's. I retired in 2000 and handed the business to our son. This is when my years of woodworking really leapt up to a higher level, and is when my 25 years using routers paled into insignificance when I was tutored by a real expert.
My tin shed is 15' x 20' and is full of machines, all on wheels so that they can be manoeuvred around to suit the project in hand.
For close to four years I have been making and photographing projects, most specifically for router forums. That's about it.

So many of my routerforums friends are here, I'm feeling at "home"already. The problem that I'm finding with this amazing forum is it's size, there are so many sections covering so many subjects that it requires one to retire from the workforce because I think that an eight hour day would be required to keep up with the daily goings-on!
Have you sorted out Skype yet Jack?

Sadly, no. I haven't even looked, LATE night last night, and LONG day today. It never ends sometimes! I am relaxing, not thinking, haha, and thinking of sleep!
