I would be amazed if this wasn't more wide spread in all sports that employ a salary cap system. Can't believe that it seems to have been done so consistently and well by the Storm though. I wonder if the NRL is going to scrutinise other clubs now or bury their heads in the sand and say that its only one team and no one else is doing it. League doesn't need another scandal but if they're not serious about this one it could come back to bite them on the you know where in another few years (maybe less) when another club is caught out.

I'd be surprised if there aren't at least 1 or 2 other clubs doing the same thing, perhaps not in as big a way.

Actually heard that St Kilda may come under a bit of scrutiny as one of the Storm bosses came across from there. Apparently they passed the audit first time round but they may get another looking at:rolleyes:

It will be interesting to see how it affects the new Melbourne Super 14 team too.

Where is the lifetime ban for the managers from all sports management positions? :((

Good point. Maybe the poor performers only last 3 years anyway.

...

Bit OT but the missus is against bans on drugs in footy. She reckons let the market reign. Let's have two-headed players. Might make one brain.

I thought the betting on the wooden spoon was the good bit. I heard it was stopped yesterday morning after a number of big flutters on the Storm.

Sponsors have fled, current and ex bosses are being dumped and pilloried all over the place. All in a game where the objective is to bash the other guy hard enough that you can get past him with an oblongy pig skin thing. Curioser and curioser....

I'm suprised that the players agents have been (so far) left out of this. There are only a small number of agents with large numbers of players on their lists. If anyone knows whats going down its the guys that make the deals.

Corbs, either the players lied to their agents about their income, in which case zero, or they didn't in which case 'I don't recall'.

You can bet the ATO will be sniffing every which way.

And what about the players who didn't get an under the counter payment. They'll be a bit upset at their agents. It does make a change from the AFL and nightclub bouncers though.:U

been an avid follower of mast sports for as long as I can remember. Grew up with RL, played it and Union and a bit of Aussie rules.

Always followed the League but now I am totally disillusioned _ sex, drugs, booze and now this! It's enough to make a grown man cry!!:C:C:C

This is always going to happen when big $$$ are involved irrespective of which "sport".

In many cases with "sport" at this level it appears that much of the popularity is manufactured by the media and the hype of the spin Drs. Have a good look at the stands - in many cases you could toss a hand grenade and nobody would get hurt yet the game occupies prime radio/TV time and countless boring, mundane, irritating, useless advert for most of the things we neither want not need but some guru thinks this is what we should have or do. The big sponsors couldn't give a toss about the game - all that is of interest to them is the $$$ they can generate.

These days, if you want to see real sport - go to the local, almost amateur fixtures - you'll be pleasantly surprised at the lack of prima donnas and how hard thes sportsmen and women play - yes play it is not a job.

Well, I guess I'll go back into the bunker and await the incoming as many regard this as a sacred cow which shouldn't be touched.

Why do they have to be under the counter payments? Is there anything to suggest the players knew what was going on? In my job I know how much I get paid ..... I have no idea about the other workers. If it is found that any players knew that they were getting paid above what they should then surely they should be banned.

Couldn't agree more. It is more enjoyable watching the VFL on the ABC on a Saturday afternoon than the AFL. Good honest contest without all of the hype of the AFL.
